Addiction Epidemic

Losing Generations

Brittney sees the effects of addiction every single day, both inside and outside the classroom. The young people of our state have been most ravished by this collective tragedy and the fallout has only just begun. Poverty, homelessness, joblessness, crime, child neglect and abandonment, disease such as HIV, Hepatitis and sepsis - these are just a few of the symptoms of this debilitating epidemic.

Upshur County has the amazing work of the Opportunity House, but Lewis County does not have a treatment and recovery center. Our state is trying to fund more drug busts and convictions when more and more of our youth are falling into this pattern because we are not approaching this issue with the health and recovery of those struggling with addiction in mind. We have to drastically alter our approach or we will continue to lose families - both those in addiction and those dependent on it - as casualties of this national crisis.

West Virginia has been hit hardest by the drug epidemic but our community has no recovery center - will you fight for one?
